Elevate Your Personal Branding Game

Apr 20, 2022

When it comes to owning a  business, everyone understands the value of effective branding but people tend to forget the importance of developing their own personal brand which is linked with them as an individual. Personal branding is a powerful tool that, when used correctly, may be your most important asset.

The definition of personal branding itself is the process of influencing how the public perceives you as a person. Building your reputation, developing an image of yourself that you would like to present to the outside world, and marketing yourself well as an individual is all part of personal branding. Your personal brand is essentially the story that is being told about you when you are not present.

It’s possible that thinking of yourself as a brand makes you feel uneasy. However, the reality is that everyone has a personal brand. Personal branding is also about how people think about your work? How do people view you and see you? What are some of the adjectives they use to describe you? Would those words be uplifting or depressing? Personal branding is about reputation and image.

With that being said, building a personal brand consciously allows you to tell your story the way you want it to be told, establishing yourself as an expert and leader in your field. By doing that, you would also be able to engage with your consumers and clients in ways that go beyond your products and services. You need to create a strong personal brand if you want to become influential. Your personal brand helps you stand out from everybody else. You can use your personal brand to demonstrate your knowledge and skills in your areas of expertise.

Therefore, as we understand the importance of personal branding, here are some of the best ways to escalate it;

  1. Figure out who you are

You must first understand yourself in order to create a personal brand that effectively reflects your personal and professional personality. Make a list of your personal strengths and flaws and consider the following questions:

  • In which areas of work do I excel in?
  • What motivates me?
  • What characteristics have other people complimented me on?
  • Which projects and areas have others had to help me with repeatedly?
  • Which roles seem to drain my energy?
  • Which projects can I spend hours on without feeling overwhelmed or tired?

Keep in mind that many people find it difficult to choose a specialization since they don’t want to be limited. Be aware that, like many corporate brands, your personal brand will evolve over time. The ideal technique is to pick a specific topic to concentrate on and allow it to develop over time.

  1. Determine what you want to be known for

Your personal brand is more than a reflection of who you are now; it’s a map of where you want to go in the future. Examine your strengths and weaknesses in relation to the industry or career you wish to break into next, and understand your current abilities and competencies. You’ll discover the abilities and attributes that distinguish you from others , as well as the areas where you will need to improve in forecasting where you want to be in five or ten years, as well as the qualities you want to be known for, can help you figure out what actions you need to take to get there.

  1. Research your desired industry and follow the experts

Research on who the experts in such roles are as you begin to sketch out the careers you want. Find out who the leaders or successful people in whatever sector you’re interested in are by looking them up on the internet to see whether they have a page or a tool where they share their ideas. After that, analyze what they’re doing, imitate them, then outdo yourself. In building a personal brand, your goal is to stand out but you can’t rise to the top without taking inventory of who’s already there.

  1. Prepare an elevator pitch

Spend some time developing an elevator pitch, a 30 to 60-second story about who you are as you begin to define your personal brand. Having an elevator pitch prepared makes it simpler to communicate what you do and where you’re going (or would like to go) in your career, whether you’re attending a networking event or an informal party. Focus on a few crucial things to mention in your elevator pitch and keep it short.

  1. Embrace networking

It’s critical to network consistently and effectively to expand your professional circle while you develop your ideal personal brand. Attend formal and casual networking events to meet peers and experts from the same industry . The more connections you build and the more value you can provide in your encounters, the more likely your personal brand will become known. As networking accounts for almost 85 percent of all job openings, attending these events on a regular basis will help you to not only grow your brand, but also improve your career.

With that being said, it is essential to grow and escalate your personal branding to not only advance your career path and also to bring the best version of you. Conceivably, by implementing these strategies, you can improve your personal branding and you can use your personal branding as your superpower to elevate your career.
